Our league is following the trend in youth football... no weight limits but with restrictions - over "X" lbs and you can't carry the ball, you have to play on the line. Obviously you can recover fumbles, get an interception, etc, and run with the ball no matter what your weight is.
A lot, if not most, Youth Leagues are now doing this and it's because: Every single health organization who has looked into this issue has stated that 'weight' is not a factor in injuries. Now that surprised me, and frankly I'm dubious... but that's what the evidence says.
This photo is my grandson with the Linemen... most of these kids are 'over' the maximum weight allowed for 'running with ball'. A few of them are WAY over.
Never the less... this worries me. This is a HUGE size difference. Kids this big WILL be tackling my grandson.
