I checked my recent DirecTV billing... noticed that NFL Sunday Ticket had renewed. 6 payments, that's SIX PAYMENTS, of $184 each. That's $1,104 total for Sunday Ticket... NOT including my programming package, which was more, obviously.
Hmmmmm, that seemed a bit high to me. So I called them, to cancel.
The lady was nice... said it should have been 6 payments of $59.95. I replied, "Cancel it".
She switched me to another person who could make me a better offer... are you ready for this? hehehehehehehe.
The new lady could make me a one time offer of 6 payments of $55 each rather than $59.95. I was staring at a golden opportunity to save a whopping $30 on my NFL Sunday Ticket cost.
This gets better... MUCH MUCH BETTER... and I swear to you this happened.
While on line I noticed that my automatic payment was 'rejected'... and I spotted why instantly... they billed a Credit Card I cancelled about 6 months ago, (old Costco AE card that Costco dropped)... I had changed my CC to the new card... I think in February, and had been been paying, automatically, and successfully, with the new card since then.
So now I have a bill for $1,104 just for Sunday Ticket and they reverted to my defunct Credit Card and were demanding payment.
I asked the lady about this... asking if that didn't seem a bit odd to her. She agreed, it was odd... her solution?
"Immediately Pay The Total Amount Due" with a current CC then wait for a credit when they processed the cancellation of Sunday Ticket.
Hmmmm, tempting.. but no, I countered with an alternate solution.
"How About"... I asked her, "I wait until you fix my bill, reflecting the Sunday Ticket cancellation, then I'll pay". She said, "yes, that's an option".
I liked this next bit:
Agreeing to my plan I commented to her, "You realize that DirecTV is going to accept my manual payment and then charge me a second time with the 'automatic payment'?" I explained to her that this had happened to me before, some years ago.
Her comedic timing was excellent... a very long pause, I was wondered if she had hung up on me... then, quite demurely I hear, "'that's possible".
And so ended today's DirecTV saga... to be continued I'm sure. - JamesJM
