But first: Yes, precisely. They are proud.
My daughter reports that they spent last night sharing the video with all their friends and never grew tired of telling their story, (which of course grew in the telling) until they fell asleep. They'll probably continue this morning.
Ok, Derek. He's the kid, (14yrs old), on the left as you watch the video and the most visible when they get tossed, launching high and entering the water feet first. His is a sad story, I don't know it all but....
I believe he's currently in his 'third family'... that is, his Mom's third husband. A couple of years ago his grandmother, whom I understand was raising him, died - and a couple of weeks later his Dad was killed in a motorcycle accident. Derek had never been on a lake before in his life, much less a boat.
A couple of weeks ago my daughter took him camping, (he's good friends with my grandson Gavin, same age, class, football team), and yup... first time camping in his life.
Even before the loss of his grandmother and Dad he was withdrawn... very friendly but very reserved and cautious with others. I have heard his home life has never been a good one but that's 'hearsay'... I don't know that... If true it could, however, explain his caution around others.
So, camping, lake trip, last night he told my daughter this was the best summer of his life. And last night he, and my grandson's Mason and Gavin, and my nephew Marco, (the 4 in the tube incident), are the talk of the town.... or, that is, at least their 'social circle', and they are milking it for all they can get
