I agree with pretty much all of that, and l live in the middle,of bear country. I've had several encounters with bears during the day and have never had an issue or felt As though I was in immediate danger. Having said that I have tremendous respect for bears and what they can do to a human. I have a friend who has had two very close calls with bears...pepper spray was needed on both occasions. But more to your point, night in the wild isn't as scary to me as night in the city. Skunks scare the crap out of me though. I see skunks in the city and out in the bush. My heart rate is way more elevated after a skunk encounter than it is after a bear encounter.
