on the main board when he mentioned 'apple pie'.
I think ALL of us sometimes grow melancholy for yesteryear... and some of the things that are no longer with us or at least very rare... but one thing that isn't actually rare... still very available but just not used very much is:
Old fashioned food... Mom & Pop restaurants... Diners.... the USA is filled with them... most people just choose to go with 'familiar' so they pick and Outback or a Denny's instead... not that there is anything wrong with those places... BUT....
One of my favorite 'treats' is to wander into a Mom & Pop restaurant that not only has the classics... Hot Roast Beef Sandwiches... Chicken Fried Steak... Meatloaf... but ALSO has homemade pies for sale by the slice OR the whole pie.
Couple of year's ago I was in Minnesota and pulled into a place that was actually named "Mom & Pop".... best coconut cream pie I've ever eaten. Roman18 brought up apple pie.... and I immediately thought of a small place, (it was not even in town but instead in the country), in Tennessee that served a slice of Apple Pie with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream that had to have been made by people living in a monastery of something that did nothing in this life OTHER than to bake apple pies.
Now, and as you may know... Mom & Pop's are no guarantee of good food.
But if you happen into a great one... it's worth the risk. - JamesJM
