It will be a tough situation on both sides as already signed contracts will eat up a bigger percentages of a lower salary cap.
That means either cutting your stars our relying on very affordable players for the rest of the roster.
Or the NFL could just swallow any potential loss of revenue in calculating the cap and simply make this year an exception.
And we don't know the effect. For example, if stadiums are empty, presumably even more people watch games on tv.
I personally wouldn't care that much if owners lost
some profit over this because they are always guaranteed more when things settle down. If nothing else, the value of teams always goes up--and that's regardless of the record. So to me, it's not automatically a case of assuming players should take less. No one watches games where the owners suit up and play.
