The contract NRC signed wouldn't have gotten the Rams a comp pick this year even if he had been part of the equation. Going on memory I think all the comp picks are given out for guys who signed contracts north of $2.5M a year.

So if the Rams kept him for another year and then let him hit free agency he would have had to sign for a lot more than he did for the Rams to get a comp pick for him.
