Although I think Whitworth could easily get 10 for his position. If we're looking to resign a starting left tackle for less than 10 I'd be shocked. A contender needing one shot at a Superbowl run would give him 12 IMO.
Whit had made $77 million as of 2018. Easy for me to say, but I don't think $2 or $3 million (say, the diff between $9 million and $12 million) is going to determine where he plays in his (likely) final year. I think he really enjoys McVay and his teammates, and if giving up a few million will help create the opportunity to field a more competitive team this coming year, I'll be surprised if he DOESN'T do that.
The other big lure, I imagine, would be playing for a Bowl contender. But there're very few teams clearly better than the Rams w/a starting LT position to offer. Are there any? And, even if there are, I dunno that an incrementally better chance for a deep playoff run would outweigh the draw of playing for a team he loves that certainly considers itself a playoff-caliber team.
You heard it here: Whit returns for less single-digit $$$.
