Maybe the light came on for McVay rather than Higbee ...
I think w/teh Everett and Cooks injuries and the OL struggles the Rams were compelled to try something different. That included more Goff rollouts, and greater use of Higbee in both the run and pass game. He responded very nicely, McVay rolled with success, and he kept producing.
If I have to find the quote I will but Gurley talked about Higbee after TH started coming through in a big way.
Gurley was asked, did that surprise you.
His answer was, no one who has seen him in practice was surprised in the least. As in, basically, TG and the rest of the team already knew what TH was capable of because it had been showing up in practices, at least in 2019 it was.
This suggests to me that the entire team knew who TH was and it was just a matter of calling on him when he was needed. And not only was Everett injured, but Cooks (post-concussion) was under-performing too. So they needed someone to step up, and TH did.
