Maybe the light came on for McVay rather than Higbee ...

I think w/teh Everett and Cooks injuries and the OL struggles the Rams were compelled to try something different. That included more Goff rollouts, and greater use of Higbee in both the run and pass game. He responded very nicely, McVay rolled with success, and he kept producing.

So I don't def don't think the "light came on" for Higbee. Given the same opportunity earlier in the earlier he would have responded in the same way. It's not like he was a rookie or even a second-year player. The "opportunity came on" for Higbee. Nor do I think the light came on for McVay, exactly. Circumstances led him to rely more on Higbee, it worked out very nicely indeed, and he went with it.

It's tempting to ask why McVay didn't realize what Higbee was capable of earlier, but I'm not sure that's fair. The offense did QUITE nicely in McVay's previous couple years. Whose touches should have been reduced to make sure Higbee got the ball more often in previous years? Gurley? Woods? Cooks? Kupp? And I still think Everett can be a stud receiver at TE.

The good news - the GREAT news - is that, especially if Cooks comes back strong, is that our Rams have an embarrassment of riches at the receiving positions. Just need an OL that can buy Goff time to get them the ball.
