In all fairness to Dante step back from the comparison to Littleton for a moment for the sake of an exercise. What if the Rams could Transition tag Littleton with the hopes of reaching or matching a long term contract? And if the Rams also Franchise tagged Fowler what would your thoughts be at that moment?
I sometimes wonder if Dante seems to have garnered more admonishment than he deserves from Rams fans. He came to the Rams after being the 3rd overall selection in the 2015 draft for a 3rd round pick in 2018.
There were posters throwing him under the bus two weeks after the trade. Fowler went on to make the key play against a future Hall of Fame QB in the NFC championship game in overtime. I won't forget that play. It was a season to remember for a lifetime because the Rams reached the Superbowl. They don't reach it without Folwer.
Folwer follows up that accomplishment by being asked and accepting a one-year prove-it deal. All we read from camp is Fowler looks great as a pass rusher and is in great shape. And in the 2019 regular season, he proves it. Fowler Jr. finished the season with 58 tackles (40 solo), 11.5 sacks, 16 QB hits, 16 tackles for loss and 6 six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a touchdown. They triple-teamed Donald and other than 34-year-old Mathews no other Ram defender could take advantage and get home. Do you want Donald tripled teamed his whole career without anyone else to make them pay? Fowler is 25 years old. And Rams fans want him to leave town? The Rams brought in a new 3-4 coach who is accustomed to working with elite-level edge rushers such as Khalil Mack, Von Miller Bradley Chubb and we want him to go with Ebu and Obo?
I am postmodern. Think outside the box. Find a way to keep them both.
