I was under the impression that O'Connell was brought in to be similar to what LaFluer was doing here....the OC but also the QB Coach. Hence the wonder of the need for Waldron at this point.

That was my understanding, too, Roman. But technically zn is correct. Waldron was last listed as QB coach, although the Rams.com website has not been updated. IOW, I think that Waldron retains the title for now, but others will surely be handling the QB coaching duties down the road.

The bigger question remains as to whether Waldron is the best possible ‘QB coach’. I seriously doubt it.

People seem to be acting as if they have all this insight into Waldron. As if they were privvy to an actual evaluation of him. As opposed to what is really the case, which is that they know nothing, basically.

For example--WHY will "others ... surely be handling the QB coaching duties down the road."

I don't have anything to counter that with because I am honestly in the position all of us are in--I know next to nothing about the guy and his status with McVay. So I don't pretend to know enough to argue with views that pretend to know more than that. So for example, why was Peete let go yet Waldron kept, in an environment where McV clearly was changing up the staff? Do you have any REAL idea, outside of guesses?

Are you by any chance just leaping to conclusions based on the Rams iffy offensive performance this year? (Which had many causes.) And for some reason Waldron's name just shows up on the "him not good" list...not that anyone has anything real to base that on?

In terms of him being a former TE coach---not sure why that's relevant. Everyone would agree that Ramsdell was a good qb coach under Vermeil and Martz. Did you know that 99 was his first year as a qb coach? You know what he did before that for 3 years? He was the Rams TE and H-back coach from 96-98. Vermeil promoted him to qb coach and he then did well in that role from 99-2005. He was then P.Rivers qb coach from 2006 through 2012.

I don't know if Waldron is as good as Ramsdell but both were TE coaches before becoming qb coaches, so apparently being a TE coach first means absolutely nothing either way.
