Getting a pick in this year's draft vrs next year's draft

The Rams would probably get a 3rd round compensatory pick for the Free Agency loss of Fowler in the 2021 draft (next year).
With a tag and trade, they might get a 2nd round pick in this year's draft (2020).

I do have to admit it is difficult for me to see a 25-year old pass rusher who got double-digit sacks walk away.
