Suh-weet!
Seems like we shouldn't see what we saw a number of times, namely "breakdowns" where guys weren't where they were supposed to be. It was especially obvious in the secondary at times.
Any thoughts about that?
Yeah let me jump in.
What you complain about happened in 2019. Not for every season in the entirety of Phillip's career.
Can't do the thing where recent bad memories wipe out actual history.
In 2019 the Rams basically changed the secondary a few times over.
What are the odds that would not lead to communication issues?
My question has nothing to do w/assessing Phillips. FWIW, I think his long track record speaks for itself and would have been happy had he been retained. When (some) people say "Wade's lost his fastball" and similar things, I honestly don't even know what that means. (AND I also trust McVay's sense of things much more than I trust my own and and eager to see if the new guy can help usher in a TRULY dominant defense.)
But it stands to reason that a strength of the Phillips' approach would be that critical breakdowns would happen much less than they did. Personnel turnover and resulting bad communications certainly could be part of the answer.
