simple premise and I agree

I think his arm strength is totally fine. He can zip it, make deep out throws and throw deep just fine. And his accuracy is very good when, as stated, his mechanics/feet are good. When protection is bad his feet go to hell and his mechanics get thrown off and you see some bad balls come out of his hand. So yes, the basic premise here is he needs better protection. It ALL comes back to that.

The other thing about learning to read defenses better is simply a matter of more experience and coaching. For 50 starts in he is doing well. And for all the "McVay is in his ear until 15 seconds" thing (as most OCs are...) they also snap the ball at ~25 seconds and at 1-2 seconds as much as anyone.

I also would like to see him moved around in the pocket more regularly. He is hardly a mobile QB but on designed rollouts he does well and usually makes good decisions. Especially with an inconsistent OL moving him around 6-8 times per game would seem wise to me.
