He was never a good pass blocker, but a very good run blocker especially when he had Gurley in top form. Rams ran a lot of play action passes which helped Havenstein due to pass rushers not teeing off on Goff. This year Havenstein is being asked to pass block out of the shotgun a lot more and he's not that guy.
Are the Rams really playing out of shotgun a lot more this year?
I think it's overstating things and too much of a simplification to say that he's never been a good pass blocker. He's always had trouble with the elite speed rushers but apart from them - and there's not a ton of them - he's been good in pass blocking.
I don't know what his issues this year are but I'm leaning towards injury because he's never been this bad.
