Maybe an over-reaction, but not an unfounded one.
McVay is a young coach dealing with a championship caliber team that, for the first time in his coaching tenure, is dealing with offensive injuries that have pretty much derailed his schemes. There were/are a lot of expectations for this team and I imagine the weight is crushing.
As coach he needs to be looking at the big picture of the team & the flow of the game, not necessarily on the details. I suspect in the past he had LaFleur and Taylor helping him. I don't know if Waldron serves the same purpose. Having a dedicated OC might be the solution to transitioning him from HC/OC to just HC.
We know he reached out to Jay Gruden, and it will be interesting to see if Taylor gets canned after one season, and whether either would join the staff.
Here’s what I think, 3030.
Give McVay a top 5 OL and a 100% healthy Gurley and Cooks once again and I guarantee you that we would be seeing a 32 ppg O once again.
Currently, McVay is in a knife fight in a phone booth with his O problems.
McVay is NOT the big problem. He is struggling to cope, but I don’t think that he is the problem at all.
