From most every article I've seen since the Ramsey trade, Peters didn't fit the Rams/Son of Bum's defensive scheme, so why did they pick him up in the first place?
It has also been reported that the Rams were going to trade him regardless of whether they picked up Ramsey or not.
I understand that the team ultimately was successful, making it to the super bowl AND the price wasn't too high....BUT they took a chance on a guy with possible locker room/team issues for a player that just couldn't play man defense...it just seems odd to me.
Did they change much of the defensive scheme to match Peter's skill set?
Whether players are drafted, traded for or signed as a FA. And in college, recruited. They may not play in the right system or they may not play the right position. Coaches see a skill set they like and think they can make it work. Some work great, others not so much. Mark Barron was a RB/WR/LB in high school, then SAF in college and a LB with the Rams. He did well at all those positions.
Nolan Cromwell, one of my favorite Rams, was an All American Honorable Mention QB at Kansas his senior year and he was an All Pro Safety for the Rams.
Sometimes position changes and systems work out. They gave Peters a try and it didn't work out.
