Good level headed post. Me: I think McVay & Co. hit the panic button. It comes across as an emotional reaction as opposed to a well thought out decision.
He's young, young people make emotional decisions and the loss of a 1st round pick for the next two years may hurt, as well as any future cap hit. That being said, I hope I'm wrong and it all works out.
IMO, McVay's youth doesn't factor in here. He's not in charge of the organization. From all reports and everything I've gathered, they make decisions as a group. Snead, Demoff, and McVay.
And as of yet there has been no report that McVay has more power than Snead. OTOH, there have been some small, subtle clues that Snead actually has more power than McVay starting with his seniority and the fact that he led the search for the coach.
That said, the decision making has always been done as a collaborative effort. What I see here is aggression not necessarily emotion. And being aggressive is a clear attribute of Snead's that manifested before McVay ever arrived.
