Having superstars on both offense and defense is great, exciting and obviously makes your team better. Just ask the Los Angeles Rams, who on Tuesday added Jalen Ramsey to a roster that already featured Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald, all of whom are among the highest-paid players at their respective positions.
Ramsey isn’t at the top of the cornerback market, but you can bet he will be in the next year or so when he cashes in with a deal worth more than $16-17 million per year.
Again, having a superstar – let alone four – is awesome, but it doesn’t come without consequences. Those consequences include not being able to play key young starters who will be up for new contracts in the not-so-distant future.
For the Rams, several players might be shown the door rather than the checkbook. It’s the nature of playing in a league with a salary cap, which makes roster-building that much more difficult.
