I agree. Its more about how they replaced him with a total bust like Phillips than the fact they let Bettis go. After a great start to his career averaging 90 yards per game through mid-1994 he averaged about 2.5 YPC in his last 1.5 years with the Rams. And he was fat and out of shape.
Those were dark days for me personally as far as Ram coverage was concerned. Rampages with week old news (and fluff at that) and national stuff was about all I had.
Didn't Bettis more or less quit on them, forcing their hand?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
