Their front office was a mess and Martz ego let Kurt take a savage beating. The GM whoever it was 'the throat slasher' maybe was completely incompetent - either in who they drafted or who they let Mike draft. The lone bright spot was Steven Jackson. Jackson with Warner and an O-line and a defense might have been a pretty good team.
Yes the 2002 team lost the first 6 games - then Warner broke his hand on a day where there were stomped into the field in KC. He played one game after that and was sacked 6 times.
Of course there's the awesome pick Bulger threw in OT in the playoff game against the Panthers. They'll play that on a loop in Canton!
Did Warner have a hand problem - yes. Somehow the Cardinals figured out how to work around it. I guess it wasn't worth it for the Rams to find solutions. Not when we had Bulger to light the world on fire.
