I think it's a forgone conclusion that Gurley's touches from prior years will be fewer from here on out.
But, if Vinny is right, it is less an issue of dealing with an injury than protecting a valuable asset by having a health maintenance program that includes around 5 fewer touches per game than what he used to have so that he is healthier and more able to contribute at playoff time.
Perhaps the "workhorse" NFL RB's days are coming to a close, or are not as realistic as the game is so brutal on RBs. But, that likely comes with teams that don't use "workhorse" RBs in any longer paying mega-bucks to RBs. The Cowboys didn't pay Elliott a ton to reduce his touches, nor did the Jets bring on Bell to give him reduced touches.
It had to be hard for the Rams to pay Gurley a record contract and at the same time know that if you divide salary by touches, the team is probably over paying.
