It is a risky approach on one hand, to make sure no offensive line
starter is injured in a preseason game in the other hand.
A good point, but, the Rams players themselves say that the joint practices were better than pre-season games for preparing them.
For one thing, it's not only live scrimmage action against live opponents (1s against 1s), but a joint practice allows you to set up situations and get live reps playing in them. For example, the odds of playing in a 2 minute drill in a P-S game are slim. In a joint practice, you can set it up so you get multiple reps doing just that.
