You can blame Muhammad Ali for bringing politics into sport, Roman. Noam Chomsky thought it was a good thing, but he looks at sports as just another mass diversion to keep people simple minded and preoccupied with things that aren't really important. I suppose that it is like that for some people, maybe for the majority of people in fact.
I see your point though, but I would also extend the 'keeping politics out of it' to include military jet flyovers, and ex-presidents flipping coins if you're really against the idea.
Personally, it doesn't bother me in the least.
