continuity matters....

In so many aspects of the NFL continuity is such a competitive advantage. Teams that get the HC (OC)/QB combo right have huge advantages in being able to progress and build on what they know and do together. McVay and Goff are entering year 3 together. Neither are finished products. Look at New England where McDaniels and Brady are entering their 12th season together. So McVay and Goff are where McDaniels and Brady were together in 2006.
