You can't get a flash or 2 from 5 inexperienced linemen playing together for basically the first time going up against experienced defensive units.

Once the OL is that way everything else is going to be less stable and less coherent too.

These pre-season games, in terms of the offense, serve the sole purpose of coaching up young inexperienced linemen.

We're lucky it looked as good as it DID.

The benefits are longterm.

I strongly disagree, zn.

It is entirely possible for an individual rookie to flash a time or two if he is equal or superior to his opponent in strength or technique.

And not just on the OL, but with all positions.

Geez, we see it every year.

And unless you review the tape on every individual play and watch each individual linemen, you would not know if they DID play well or not.

And remember what I said.

A unit of 5 inexperienced OL (without the cohesion you get with an experienced OL) starting against a more experienced D is NOT going to impress any casual fan. OL play is NOT the sum of individual actions. It's choreographed and the sum is greater than the parts.

The trick is not to over-react to that.

IMO what you're looking for does not exist.

I am open to any counter-examples you might have but my feeling is, no one will find any.
