Any areas within walking distance of 1-3 miles of Coliseum I should avoid?

My Dad and I saw the Cubs n Braves in Atlanta. We parked just a half mile from the old Turner Field and found AFTER the game, it was good to get outta Dodge and FAST! Like I said, I have never been to L.A. and am clueless.
