That level of detail is incredible and I am looking forward to the rest of his thesis.
Two thought after reading the first installment:
1.) I wonder where the author would rank Goff among the current crop of QBs. As someone who is looking beyond the stat line of Goff's SB performance and actually trying to discover the 'why' behind his numbers he certainly is in a better position to judge than someone who merely looks at 19-for-38, 228 yds, 0 TDs, 1 Int and proclaims 'not good'.
2.) This observation from the first play analyzed: "Brandin Cooks isn’t an option because his job is merely to act as a decoy and clear out the right half of the defensive secondary." I'd like to address the possibility that Cooks was actually open on this play or on other plays where he is serving as a decoy. It irks me when posters says that Goff missed a wide open Cooks on a particular play simply because we as fans don't always know what Cooks' role is and don't always know what Goff's progression is.
From what the author wrote it would be wrong to criticize Goff if Cooks was running free on this go route, and my suspicion is that most of the time that we see Cooks 'open' downfield he either is not an option for that particular play (as is the case here) or he's not the first read and Goff has already delivered the ball to another open receiver who was ahead of him in the play's progression.
