There are A LOT of defensive stats that are more important than run defense- turnovers, sacks/pressures, 3rd down conversions, red zone defense, opposing QB rating to name a few. And I do think there is something to that idea of "stopping the run on the way to the QB" that people have said about Wade's defenses.
But that said, the Rams need to get out of the bottom 5-6 in the league in YPC allowed. It would be
way worse for the team to be top 5-10 in run defense but bottom 3 in any of the stats noted above. They do not need to be a top tier run defense. But let's get that YPC allowed down from 5.1 to more like 4.5 or 4.6...
