I tell you what... if I could I would delete the entire thing.
This team has had such a long history of phenomenal players that pinning down to four was going to be a near impossible task. Seems to me that for a number of other teams finding 4 would, unfortunately, be too easy a task. What a great legacy that we're actually debating Deacon vs Merlin vs Youngblood vs AD. And that's just on the DL! (RB? WR? Good luck!)
Secondly, it's interesting to see where the members of this list fall as far as when they became fans. There is the Pre-70's-80's strata, the 70's-80's layer and the St. Louis years. (Did anyone become a fan during the mid 90's???) I started following the team around '77 and only know the pre-then Ram legends from NFL films so I'd be hard-pressed to know who the greatest were before then.
Perhaps a better question would be the Mount Rushmore at each position.
Yeah the OL and DL alone make it daunting.
They had the fearsome foursome plus Youngblood and Donald. On the OL...starting in 1967, they had 12 different pro-bowl lineman across
24 consecutive years. In fact the 68 line had 4 pro bowlers, as did the 78 line and the 85 line. And that's before Pace and Timmerman.
Then the RBs. And some WRs.
Etc.
Picking 4 is hard which is why I expanded it to 12.
