Yeah-I suspect most running backs who have had knee surgery do have some form of arthritis. I also suspect many deal with it with powerful pain medication at game time. What this means for the future is anybody's guess. I'm hoping he doesn't end up having to use a cane -or even worse -by continuing to play. In some ways this reminds me of what's happening in horse racing circles. We beat the crap out of horses and race then younger and younger because off shore betting has taken the money away from the tracks. At many tracks a race card can't even be filled. So we bring in horses not yet ready to fill out the cards. Its always about the money and football players are no different. They will risk their future pain for the huge money they can NOW make.
Lets hope and prey this won't be the case for Gurley.
In the immediate future, the issue with wear and tear arthritis of the type this appears to be can lead to those pain/inflammation episodes.
But you can do more than just take pain killers to manage it. You can also strengthen certain muscles and take stress off the knee, and players like Faulk and Holt were injecting lubricants.
Neither Faulk nor Holt use a cane and they had both degenerated to bone on bone.
