Re: edge rushing, far and away

Suppose the edge rushing was the same in 2019 as it was in 2018, but the Rams improved their red zone percentage from 57% to 64%, their run defense from 5.1 ypc to 4.2 ypc, and 4th down percentage from 40% to 60.9%. That would put them at 10th in the league in each category (instead of 19th, 32nd, and 30th). Personally I think the Rams would be noticeably better if this were to happen.

The Rams were 15th in the league in sacks last year with 41. If they had 2 more sacks they would have been tied for 8th. How much better would the 2018 Rams have been if they had 2 more sacks? By comparison the Rams had 46 red zone TDs last year: if their RZ rate was 64% they would have had 51 red zone TDs. For my tastes I'd rather have 5 more TDs than 2 more sacks.

As it was the 2018 Rams lead the league in QB pressures. It seems to me that improving the edge rush would simply mean that someone coming off the edge might beat Donald to the QB. And just to be clear, I would love the 2019 Rams to improve their edge rush: it just seems to me that it wouldn't make as big of an impact as those other three areas.
