Personally, I don't like the idea. I feel like the season is the right length now. And who's to say those extra 2 games will be good / entertaining? The Rams have been on both sides at the end of the season - locked into a playoff spot so you don't want anyone to get hurt, or out of it by October so who wants to see games 17 and 18 when the team has only won a handful of games?
I suspect that many teams, with not much to play for - will dig into the deeper roster and not even dress some stars. Some of these could turn into late season exhibition games. Of course the battles for the division and playoff spots will continue to rage on through the final week for a few teams but I just feel every game added makes each game that much less important. And what about teams that have to play all their starters for 18 games just to get into the playoffs - will they have anything left, physically when playoff time comes?
Also, I don't understand the idea that the pre-season is too long. The only people with a beef are season ticket holders forced to pay full price for 2 games. If they go to a 2 game preseason - you're still going to have to pay for one. Look, if you don't like pre-season, don't watch. I watch parts of the games even though I know no starters will see the field. The NFL televises a lot of 'non-game content' - Draft, scouting combine, pro days, you name it. Tune in, or don't. Is it really something that needs to be changed?
