I find statements like - MJD is 'confused' or' misinterpreted' or he's 'just in the media' puzzling. Why is his opinion so quickly discounted? It's not like he spent 9 years in the league and amassed over 11,000 yards almost 80 td's. I mean, what does he know about RB's and knee injuries.
He makes a bad argument that is not supported by all the facts and which makes both the team and the player look bad, and for a lot of reasons.
Meanwhile in logic there's a fallacy called "argument from authority." That consists of accepting credentials instead of examining arguments.
If MJD had a good argument, I would say so. But he has a bad one. So I say so. Not only is it a bad argument, it makes both Gurley and the team look bad on top of it. I try to avoid doing the argument from authority fallacy thing. If someone can make a real case for what he says, cool. Just throwing his name at me, though, just leaves me with cold shrugs.
Did you instantly accept it when Keyshawn said the Rams should start Mannion? He's a player. He's a media guy. He knows football better than we do. He talks to Rams players. The entire "argument from authority" package.
MJD has said a lot of smart things that have held up, and I always give him a listen. He's one of the better ex-jock types that have covered the Rams over the years. But on this one thing, he's got the issues just completely wrong. That's okay, no analyst or reporter is 100% or close to it. Next time MJD talks about the Rams I will be listening then too.
