I just think we need to remember...they're rookies and, in Edwards case, a day 3 pick. I'll get excited when they start showing something in camp.
I like mid-late round picks on OL. But, I think we, I say we as a board, fall in love with certain guys for whatever reason. I get excitement...but I also get reality.
I think this is the reason we "cut guys slack" vs. "jump on them immediately."
We fall in love with a pick...and give them 'excuses' for their subpar performance. We don't like a pick, and when they don't produce immediately, we are down on them.
Anyway...I liked the picks. Let's hope we don't need them to perform at a high level...but if they do, bingo. If not, as a mid round or later pick, patience is appropriate.
I don't view top picks in the same light (Robinson, Everett), guys who showed little to nothing out the gate. Top picks should be contributors...immediately...at least IMO. Guys like Reynolds, whom many on this board dogged for anything bad happening (like if Goff threw a bad pass...Reynolds ran a poor route...Reynolds didn't try hard enough), is a guy where patience is warranted...and has been rewarded. But even Reynolds showed something early on...yet because he wasn't Cooper Kupp, he wasn't given any credit...until Kupp went out last season.
I expect 3rd rounders and above to show something early on. So, I'm expecting more from Rapp, Henderson, Long and Evans than those later. Although, I'm expecting some from Gaines as a day 3 pick for the price we paid to move up. I'm hopeful for Edwards. But, 31 other teams passed on him multiple times. So, while I'm hopeful, I'm also realistic based on the odds. Was his injury the cause? Why would the Rams recognize that and not other teams? Why? He has flaws...and hopefully Kromer can fix those and this injury played a larger role than other teams thought.
My point is not from a scouting perspective. I don't look at most of these guys until they are in camp. But, I assure everyone, I'll have an opinion on this guy come 9/1. Surprise surpise! lol
So my laughing is just kind of a "I've seen this reaction before...and we do it a lot!" No biggie.
