Kromer is gonna thoroughly mix and match all of his OL players to try to find an upgrade over Blythe. Nothing personal, but Blythe is now our weakest link on the OL.
Still “pretty good”, of course, but not really effective against the top D units.
So, we can expect a heavy dose of RG candidates getting snaps at RG throughout camp and preseason. Edwards, Evans, Demby, and any promising UDFA’s will get a whirl until somebody either stands out and claims the spot OR Blythe defeats all comers. Either way, the Rams win.
If I had to take a guess, I would think that Edwards might have the best shot at unseating Blythe this year. But it’s just a swag, so don’t even think about taking my guess too seriously.
I am high on all three of the likely candidates and who knows what gem Snead may have found among the udfa’s?
IF they are going to run a competition at ROG, I see Evans and Demby as the likely candidates.
I think Edwards is a redshirt and his eventual destination is tackle.
...
Short term (for ‘19 season) I see Kromer giving everybody a shot at both LG and RG. I think Boom is overwhelmingly likely to be our ‘19 starting LG. But at RG? Who knows.
Long term (for ‘20 and beyond)? I see Boom as our LOT for a decade or more. I see Edwards, Evans, or maaaaaybe Demby as our starting LG and RG for maybe a decade or more. If all 3 plus Blythe disappoint, then I see the Rams drafting an OG in mid rounds of ‘20 draft and every year after until they find their next Saffold.
