Edwards is one big and physical blocker but he's also a former TE who can move well for a huge dude and Kromer loves to move the OT types inside. They didn't draft him to play RT because they have a top ten RT in place. His immediate role is OT depth but if he can show well on the interior they may let him put some pressure on Blythe.
Guy like him isn't going to get pushed back into Goff's lap. He's not as quick as Blythe but the power would be a big upgrade.
There's another option too of course but I think Evans' feet on the outside are better than those of Edwards so I suspect he will settle in as depth at OT.
I think they drafted him to play LOT. That means 2 LOT candidates for next year, assuming Whitworth leaves (the other obviously being Noteboom). When I watched a little of Edwards and read up on him, I thought his whole profile fit LOT. BTW it's clear if you read around on Edwards that he was pretty highly regarded before the season but that playing hurt last season (shoulder) dropped him in the draft.
They have guys who are guard/ROT candidates too of course--Demby and Evans.
Actually their UDFAs look good too. It would not surprise me if there were a player or 2 in that bunch as well, including at center + maybe one of the usual Kromer G/T types. Depth and/or practice squad in 2019.
