There are 12 picks before the Rams pick in the 2nd. I think we all saw this coming. There will be more trades, but lets think this thing thru and see if we can't come up with 10 names or so for tomorrow.
Drew Lock - QB is going early. So now there are 11 players before the Rams pick.
Byron Murphy CB is my top CB, not top CB left, my top overall CB, he'll be gone leaving 10 guys before the Rams pick.
Cody Ford - OG/RT - I bet he goes rel early - down to 9
DK Metcalf - I cannot imagine he lasts long on day 2 considering he is my #1 WR and #6 overall prospect. Down to 8.
AJ Brown - Alyo's #1 WR and my #3 WR, he's gone before the Rams pick. Down to 7.
Jawaan Taylor - a 1st round quality RT - I am shocked he lasted until day 2. He'll be gone I have to think. Down to 6.
So with that said, these are the guys I suspect the Rams like:
11. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson - S - Florida - 5'-11" 210 lbs. - A scheme transcendent FS that can play man, zone and even in the slot. A rare blend of instincts, range, speed and ball skills make him a versatile defender for a teams back end.
15. Nasir Adderley - S - Delaware - 6'-0" 206 lbs. - Another swiss army knife FS that can play anywhere and comes with a CB background. Physical and not afraid of contact, sideline to sideline with ball skills. FCS competition isn't much of a concern.
17. Erik McCoy - IOL - Texas A&M - 6'-4" 303 lbs. - An OC/OG prospect with a nice blend of power and athleticism. plays under control with good technique. power or zone fit.
18. Dalton Risner - OT - Kansas State- 6'-5" 312 lbs. - Mauler, a strong, nasty mauler. RT that wants to finish you play after play. Experienced with good technique. 24 years old, so a bit older. man power scheme. I like him at RT, some may like him inside.
20. Greedy Williams - CB - LSU - 6'-2" 185 lbs. -another big, fast (sub 4.4) Cb that plays with swagger. Fluid athlete and has good ball skills. Allergic to tackling and was a bit up and down this season. Legit #1 size, athleticism and skill set.
21. Chase Winovich - EDGE - Michigan - 6'-3" 256 lbs. - Under-rated speed and athleticism, high motor and high IQ, sideline to sideline defender that can play the run and the pass, 3 down defender.
23. Rock Ya-Sin - CB - Temple - 6'-0" 192 lbs. - great name, good, not great speed and is a bit stiff in his movement, although its not something that hinders him too much. Physical and makes plays on the ball. man corner
25. Taylor Rapp - S - Washington - 6'-0" 208 lbs. - a SS with ok range. He'll earn his paycheck playing closer to the LoS and being that extra run stopper. Physical with an edge.
26. Amani Oruwariye - CB - Penn State - 6'-2" 205 lbs. - sub 4.5 speed, and tested out of the gym at the combine. smooth athlete that plays up to his size. Works in any scheme.
32. Juan Thornhill -S - Virginia- 6'-0" 205 lbs. - If your shopping for a ballhawk FS, here you go. On top of that, his combine testing was otherworldly. He doesn't play that explosively, but he has plenty of juice. Solid tackler.
So there you have it. 10 guys and 4 should make it to the Rams. I have a feeling a couple of those Safeties and Cbs will not, but you are left with plenty of choices. If I were to guess, I would say one of these 6 guys are the Rams pick:
EriK McCoy - OC/OG in a zone blocking scheme that isn't quite the mover Bradbury was, but is stronger and a better run blocker and offers you scheme flexibility.
Dalton Risner - If the Rams think he can play OC, he would make the OL immediately tougher. No more getting bullied by teams like Chicago, Philly and NE.
Chase Winovich - He is a perfect fit at Edge and the highest rated pass rusher left in the draft.
Rock Ya-Sin - I think he is a LA Ram type CB, a Senior and a Senior Bowl participant, they can brink him along slowly and replaces Talib next year.
Rapp/Thornhill - I think of all the S they visited, these 2 both make it to their pick and make sense. Thornhill is a ballhawking playmaker and Rapp is a SS that is a good mover that plays all over and thumps.
If I had my way, I would draft Gardner-Johnson, Adderely or Winovich. And go back and Take Nate Davis in the 3rd with a Saunders and a CB that slips.
Thanks for all your hard work and time to write this up! I will have it with me when I follow the picks! It's the perfect guide to watching the beginning of the day 2 draft!
Thanks! You rock!
