A 1st and 2nd rounder are QB territory.
But let's remember: the long term odds of a 1st rounder becoming a starter is 50%. The odds of a 2nd rounder becoming a starter is 25%. What are the odds of those becoming a star ProBowl player that gets 13 sacks from the OLB position? And when you're picking at the 30th spot? Don't know. But it's darn small.
So to think that this trade is apples for apples is questionable. A proven 25 year old highly accomplished pass rusher is hard to find. And a 2nd round pick that is nearly a 3rd rounder) and a 1st round pick (that is nearly a 2nd rounder) is the furthest thing from a guarantee that Clark's contributions will be accounted for in a rookie or even two. And they certainly aren't going to go after a major FA in the near future.
The Seahawks had to let a bird in the hand go for two in the bush.
That's never a good position to be in. But it was necessary if they were going to have the money to field 51 players.
