There are questions about Dexter Lawrence I would like to have answered. Like how did he fail a ped drug test?
The other is how is his health - He admitted to playing at 50% in 2017 all season with a bad foot. Which is impressive considering how well he played in 2017.
He also strained a quad at the combine.
That said, I like Big Dex, but I keep coming back to the same question with him as a Rams fan:
How does drafting Dexter Lawrence help Aaron Donald? The answer is he really doesn't. He is a run stuffer. The Rams need help rushing the passer. It cannot be all AD. And I know the responses will be that Dex is really a freakish athlete for his size and can get penetration. Sure, to stuff the run. Not get to the QB. And in a 1 gap 34, you need guys that can get to the QB and force double and triple teams off AD.
Tillery sacks last 2 seasons 4.5 and 7 for a total of 11.
Lawrence sacks last 2 seasons 2 and 1.5 for a total of 3.5.
And as far as tackles and tackles for loss, Tillery (last 2 seasons) had 84 tackles and 17.5 TFL, Lawrence had 69 tackles and 9.5 TFL.
And this is with Lawrence being on the best DL in maybe college football history and Tillery doing it on his own outside of Khalid Kareem.
I'm not the biggest Tillery fan, but he does give the Rams more in the pass rush dept. then Lawrence.
That said, I love Christian Wilkins, he gives you a little bit of both pass rush and run defense. He had a 111 tackles, 23 TFL and 10.5 sacks his last 2 seasons. All this in a high character package. he is a perfect fit for a Rams defense. I just see no way he is around.
Clellin Ferrell is another fit for LA. he is great against the run and has an advanced pass rush set and has played in a 2 and 3 point stance, alot like we see Fowler do in games. Again, he just won't be around IMO. I'd love to be wrong.
