I'm convinced that as long as Goff is healthy the Rams will pay him market value for QBs entering their 2nd contract.
Teams seem to consider only whether a guy is a quality starter when deciding whether to pay market value for a QB or not.
And when you see the top five from 2018 (Jimmy Garropollo (SF), Matt Stafford (DET), Derek Carr (OAK), Joe Flacco (BAL), Andrew Luck (IND)) it kind of says that's true.
Personally I expect the Rams to pick of Goff's 5th year option when they have to and then sign him to a market value contract that will put him near the top of the list of cap hits for QBs. That's the way I have seen things work, and the reality is Goff won't be near the top of the list for long: over the life of his contract the market will go up and many QBs - some of them lesser QBs than Goff - will sign deals that exceed his.
Just out of curiosity, what would you want the Rams to do: Franchise tag Goff? Offer him less than market value? Let him walk? Trade him before he hits the market?
