We all get that the players have short careers and need to secure that financial security.
But when they’re already 30 and rich while seeking that 3rd and final contract?
I would think that other things would become increasingly important. Teammates, coaches, likelihood of SB, etc?
Saffold, to his credit, at least went to a team with a decent looking future. Had he gone to the Jets, Cards, or Raiders I would have still been scratching my head.
All this is assuming that the Rams would have made competitive offers, of course.
First, from what I read about why the Titans wanted RS, it is clear that they courted him and saw him as the perfect addition to bolster their line. They are a zone blocking team and RS showed with the Kromer/McVay Rams OL that he is very suited to that offense.
But more generally, yes, 2nd contracts are the big "time to cash in" contracts, while more veteran players can often focus on other considerations (the way Suh did with the Rams).
