I think it can be argued that McVay being in his ear the way he has prevents Goff from developing the ability to decipher
what defenses are doing.
It will remove a dependency on his coach - some of it may just be due to McVay wanting to control everything as well
In year 3 I hope to see a lot less of it for sure
I would say it is just the opposite.... it is a very helpful tool to help him develop the ability to decipher what a defense is trying to do.
But the story is being blown out of proportion...Goff has even joked about how half the time he's telling McVay to shut up already.
All McVay can do is offer pointers pre-snap.
If Goff can't do post-snap reads then there is no offense.
They played 5 top 10 defenses and went 3-2 against them.
Take it to the top 12, and it's 8 games and they went 5-3.
Room for improvement. But not as bad as some seem to think. Certainly not an offense where the qb normally can't do post-snap reads.
