Zn,
I hope you don't think that I was criticizing the discussion. It was a painful loss and it is natural, and necessary, for humans to discuss and review these types of things. It's a good thing to do.

But it's an assumption of yours that we get to the SB without the trades. It's incredibly difficult to get to the SB. I do disagree with you that draft picks could have provided what the guys we got provided. Some rookies do contribute quite a bit, many do not. I take more of the George Allen approach.

You know that I was one of the more pessimistic guys on this board, and I'm amazed at the success McVay has had. Two years ago, if anyone would have said, "We'll be in the SB in two years!" I'd laughed at him. (I wonder if 43 did say that?). I don't think dumb luck accounts for it. I know you don't either. Consequently, I'm fairly content to trust in McVay and the org. to continue to improve the team. I don't have the knowledge, experience, or desire, to engage in a lot of postmortem analysis. But some good guys do, so have at it because it is beneficial.

Actually, I'm hoping that McVay trades our 1st or 3rd, or whatever round pick, to get a great, younger center. The guy we drafted last year is too small. Or maybe trade picks for a stud LT. I'd be fine with it and I have no reason to doubt our org now.

That's a fair response. I agree with some crucial things (eg. McVay is always a cause for optimism) but I don't agree with some of it ... so it goes.

For one--it's an assumption either way, when someone says we got there because of the trades or that we wouldn't get there without the trades or that we would have gotten there without the trades. It's all assumptions. Or, better, opinions. So we just have different opinions on that.

Personally, I hope they are done with trades. Trades are too expensive against the cap. Soon they will have to pay both Goff and Donald and that leaves room for about 6 or 7 other big contract guys.

When you trade for someone you get them when they're closer to being free agents who will require a lofty 2nd contract extension to keep. (Like Cooks and Watkins.) In contrast, a good 1st rounder is there for 5 years before you have to extend him.
