want give me a little credit on calling this one? lol

Clowney would look great next to Donald.

I would be willing to give up the 1 and something in 2020.

Yeah, Clowney would look great next to AD, je.

But I don’t think he’s affordable. I would prefer keeping our picks to be used on inexpensive younger players. Trading away valuable picks AND then being saddled with a humongous salary has little appeal for me.

S&M have had great success bringing in many quality starters without breaking the bank on either picks or salary.

CJ
Sully
Blythe
Cooks
Woods
Fowler
Ogletree
Peters
Talib
NRC
JJ

All have been excellent bang for the buck additions.

Ebu does not qualify as a “quality starter”, IMO, but he WAS a starter for Wade last year at a very affordable price.

Cooks shouldn't be on your list. He costs valuable draft picks and has a big salary.

However, I would argue that because he's a foundational piece for the foreseeable future, they deemed it worth it.

They don't have many foundational pieces on D right now. It's possible that Clowney could be one.

Yeah, dz, Cooks cost a low 1st and carries a big salary. But it is a market based salary for a player of his status. IOW, still good bang for the bucks.

Clowney is gonna demand an AD, Khalil Mack type salary and I don’t think he’s worth it. IMO, of course.

His production isn't in Mack/AD territory. They use Mack as a comparable with a few others and estimate his new contract in the $16-$17M range.

That's palatable. And in the same range as Cooks. That I would do.

But agreed, that if he costs $23M like Mack and AD, pass.

I’ve read projections of around $20 million. That’s too rich for my blood.

Now, $16-17M might be just barely doable.

Question. Do you consider Clowney all that? I’m not as knowledgeable about Clowney as I probably should be, but I can’t shake the feeling that his reputation going back to predraft exceeds his actual on field performance. The exact opposite of AD, for example.

IOW, is it possible for Snead to acquire an edge for less money than Clowney that gives us a better bang for our buck?
