1. I agree that McVay lost or even 'stole' the game from his offense:
He Ran the SAME plays for 2 years...after the Lions-Bears caught scent he went to the run the ball A LOT the last games 2 regular season games---smart, but it wasn't a solution. He put his head in the sand and ran all the same patterns that terminate in all the same locations on the field, and the Pats knew with regularity where every WR would end up.
2. However, like Shula, who won a superbowl the year after Landry dominated and held him to 3 points, Sean will come up with a 'differentiated' offense--one ready to handle all situations (like the multiple looks the Pats provided). Unlike Martz, Sean will change, and get the right O line guys, and new concepts.
[we all knew the O line couldn't handle what happened...no surprise with old Sully and little Blythe the technician]3.Sean will have even more powerful offenses in the future---this wasn't his last gasp by a long margin. He will have some new and improved O lineman through the years, Goff will know the system better, and he will have more than enough firepower at TE and RB to have even better offenses.
Side note on McVay as a overall coach:
SHOCKED that he Defense played so well the last 3 games...that told me a lot about McVay ( and that Wade hasn't lost his fastball, too). Offense is McVay's forte, but defense is as equally as important for the head coach to motivate....and the poor play in regular season (compared to their talent) of Brockers, Suh, Joyner, Peters was totally discouraging....but that all changed in the playoffs.....so, McVay is a lot better coach in the playoffs than he was in the regular season. Saints had more of everything, and couldn't win at home.
PS: I wish they never signed TG long term. J Kelly or CJ would be 85+% as good, and we could use the $12-16 mill extra towards Pro bowl level edge rusher or O lineman. I know, I know, insanne. But, it is the offense that makes the Running back great, not the other way around. Yes, Todd is great, but any back would be producing the same numbers with 'this' offense....nothing against TG III. Look at James Connor and All world Leveon Bell in Pittsburg.
I always wondered what J Bettis would have looked like in Martz's offense....CJ gave me a glimpse.
