That play didn't happen in a vacuum. I don't play the 'what if that call had been made' game. But I'll gladly play 'what if all the blown calls had been called correctly' game. The face masks. The delay of games. The holds. Etc., etc., etc. What would the state of the game have been with 2 minutes left if all the crap the Saints got away with had been called correctly? Would the Rams have been up by 7? 11 perhaps? Talking about one bad call without talking about all of them smacks of an agenda.
Beyond all that, if Payton wasn't such a dick he wouldn't have had to leave it in the refs hands. Run 3 times, kick the FG, go to the Super Bowl. That pass on first down was chicken sh*t, intended to embarrass someone on the Rams. McVay? Peters? Doesn't really matter who, Payton made a crap call on 1st down and because there was so much time left on the clock he kind of had to try for a first down or a TD. And in doing so he put the ball in the hands of the refs. He got what he deserved and as far as I'm concerned that non-call is on Payton, not the refs.
Go Rams! Crush the Pats!!
