The call was wrong. And, it would very likely have beaten us.
What we can argue for is putting 1 call on 1 play in context. It did not cost them the game by itself. They had plenty of chances to win the game.
Fact is, examine any game and you find blown calls. Some of them are famous. I am still pissed off at the call on Tom Mack against the Vikings. And the no-call on roughing the passer on the Pats' pick-6. And I can empathize with Saints fans who are really angry. I would be, too. Nor can I really blame Ram fans for looking for a way to push back. Fans will be fans.
For me, the real villains are the media @#$%& who hammer it over and over and over. They are not fans and should understand something about context and the age-old sports truth that no 1 call ever wins or loses a game. Hell, we should have scored from the 6 even after the Tom Mack call.
But of course the media care only about stirring things up. Their reaction, while vile, is completely predictable.
What I love is the reaction of the team. No apologies. They caught a break and then they made good on it and now they move on. Bellichek has never cared about the complaints. He just goes out and wins games and hardware. I sincerely hope McV follows his lead. And I think he will.
