Brown was cut because the Rams needed to make room under the cap for Fowler.
Everyone who was on the roster for game 1 had their salary guaranteed for the year, therefore cutting any of those guys would not have cleared any cap space.
If you think the Rams should have kept Brown then you must have an alternate plan for fitting Fowler under the cap: what is it?
BTW the Rams were not handicapped in the least by cutting Brown. Even when he was on the team the Rams only activated 7 OL on game day: Noteboom and Brown were active, Allen was inactive. And at the point in the season that Brown was cut Noteboom was the 6th OL, not Brown. So the Rams picked up Fowler and the tradeoff is that Allen became the 7th OL instead of Brown? Yeah, I'm kinda OK with that.
